You'll find us in the heart of Glasgow's city centre where we're surrounded by supermarkets to suit all tastes, we have an abundance of high street stores along with loads of great little thrift stores, second-hand shops and boutiques, restaurants for every cuisine, clubs, theatres, museums - you name it, we have it. Accommodation
You've already made a great choice in choosing to come and study at Strathclyde, but you're making the right choice by coming to stay with us too!
We provide secure accommodation for eligible students and have a dedicated Accommodation Services team to help you all year round. You'll find them in the Campus Village so if there's anything you need just pop in and ask.
We hope you have the best time staying with us and enjoy having the entire city on your doorstep.
As a new student, you can apply for University accommodation online. However, there are a few criteria you need to meet.
Eligibility
New students
- you must be studying with us full-time
- you must have satisfied all conditions of entry to the University by the 21st of August of the year of admission
Postgraduate students
If your course lasts more than 9 months of the year, you'll only be eligible for accommodation on a 51-week contract basis.
Late entry & clearing students
Accommodation is allocated on a first come first served basis if:
- you satisfy your conditions of entry to the University after 21st of August
- if you go through clearing
If we can't accommodate you here on campus, we can help guide you to secure alternative accommodation.
When can I apply
Accommodation applications open on 15th April 2021 and you can apply if you hold either an unconditional or conditional offer of study from Strathclyde.
Choices
Accommodation is allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
When completing your application form, you are given the opportunity to tell us which room type you would prefer to live in: a standard single room, a room with a wash handbasin or an en-suite room. You can list the three room types in order of preference. When we come to making you an offer we will try our best to place you in a hall with your preferred room type. Please bear in mind that depending on demand, we may not be able to offer you your top preference, but we'll make an alternative offer as close to your top preference as possible.
You may wish to be allocated a particular room type because of your gender identity, for social reasons, or practical reasons, or because you are transitioning. Please be sure to let us know what you need in the ‘Other Relevant Information’ section of the application form and we will make every effort to meet your needs. All our residences have the option of both mixed gender and single sex flats.
Flatmates
Our residences are made up of shared flats (shared corridors in Murray Hall) and you'll have between three and seven flatmates, depending on which residence you're placed in. On your application, we ask that you provide information about yourself and from this our experienced team aim to find the best mix of people for your flat.
All our residences have the option of both mixed gender and single sex flats. If you choose mixed gender accommodation, we will do our best to place you in a mixed gender flat but we cannot guarantee this. However, if you chose single sex accommodation, we will guarantee this.
You’ll be placed with students at the same academic stage as yourself. Undergraduates and Postgraduates are housed in separate blocks.

When will I have an offer of accommodation?
- if you hold an unconditional offer of study, you'll receive an offer of accommodation from us by the middle of July;
- if you hold a conditional offer of study, you will receive an offer of accommodation once the University makes you an unconditional offer of study and you have firmly accepted.
You will be given 3 to 5 days to accept the Occupancy Agreement online and make a £400 rent prepayment. Failure to accept or pay by the expiry date will result in your offer of accommodation being withdrawn.
Occupancy Agreement
When you're offered a room you're required to accept an Occupancy Agreement. It's a legally binding document and includes the residence regulations and conditions which you must adhere to (our schedule of charges will be provided along with your Occupancy Agreement). You agree to stay in residence for the duration of the Agreement and pay rent.
It's only in exceptional circumstances and with the permission of Accommodation Services that a student can leave residence before the end of the agreement. In this instance, there's a procedure to follow and a 4-week notice period will be required.
If you decide to leave University accommodation without permission, you'll continue to be charged rent for your room for the full period of the agreement. This will only stop if another student (who is acceptable to the University) can be found to take your place.
Students with additional support needs
At Strathclyde we give all support possible to students with health concerns. It can feel difficult to discuss your health or welfare concerns, but if you give us the right information when you apply for accommodation we’ll be better equipped to help find accommodation that suits you.
We understand that disability is not always visible and related to physical impairments and our Disability and Wellbeing Services can also provide additional support. We have a number of adapted rooms and we encourage you to talk to Accommodation Services if you want us to take account of your special circumstances, please let us know as soon as possible.
Medical conditions
We will consider when possible any special need or requirement for a medical condition included on your application form. You may be asked to send us a statement from your doctor. All information is treated as confidential.
Adaptations
We understand that certain medical conditions, disabilities have a big impact on day-to-day living, so some of our accommodation already have some adaptations to help you make the most of living in University accommodation. If you have adaptations or considerations in mind, let us know and we'll do our best to facilitate this.
Care experienced and estranged students
If you are:
a care experienced student - If you have spent any time living in care as a looked after child, including: kinship care – living with a relative, looked after at home with the help of social work, local authority care, living in a residential unit, living with foster carers, living in a secure unit or adoption.
an estranged student - you have experienced a permanent breakdown of relations between you and your immediate family where you have not had a communicative relationship for 12 months or more, and are studying without their support.
As part of our support we offer 52 weeks accommodation and also waive the rental pre-payment deposit. Where possible, we will strive to ensure that our care experienced students will be placed in their own room during the duration of their time in our accommodation. In the unlikely event that you are required to move rooms during the summer months, our team will be on hand to offer full support and advice.
